I just want to explain to you guys out there..

What was your first impressions when you heard it is “..download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps!”?

It is NOT 7.2 MEGABYTES per second but It is 7.2 MEGABITS per second

note that: (b) is bits and capital (B) is bytes. Therefore

7.2Mbps = 7.2 Megabits per second while 7.2MBps = 7.2 Megabytes per second

Calculation starts here:

1 bit = 1/8 bytes that means, when you convert 7.2 MEGABITS per second (Mbps) into MEGABYTES per second (MBps):

7200/8 = 900kb/s of download rate!!

so when you subscribe “XX! Broadband”, you are promised to get a connection of up to 7.2Mbps!! (900kb/s) say, you want to download mp3 which is a size of (3MB), it will take only around ~ 4 seconds.. wow!! extremely fast isnt it??

naaahhh.. sini tah org yang inda tahu…

trick nya disini:

the word “a connection of up to 7.2Mbps!!”

“..up to..” this “XX! Broadband” is SHARED connection!!

say, 20 people subscribe “XX! Broadband”, if these 20 people is downloading at the same TIME, your 7.2Mbps (900kb/s) is divided by 20, so each of these people will get 45kb/s of download rate

say, 1000 of people subscibe “XX! Broadband”, if these 1000 people is downloading at the same TIME, your 7.2Mbps (900kb/s) is divided by 1000, so each of these people will get 1.11 kb/s of download rate

BUT!!

dont worry.. there is a HARD possibility of 1000 people downloading at the same time
people only need just surf the internet.

say, you are the only person who uses “XX! Broadband” at the very morning (maybe 4am), so you will enjoy a download rate of 900kb/s incredible right?

in conclusion:

the word “a connection of up to 7.2Mbps!!” meaning you can burst your connection up to 900kb/s at some time..

ANOTHER EXAMPLE:

“The high speed data communications service using a variation of ADSL or ” e-speed ” will connect BruNet users at higher speeds of 512kbit/s, 640kbit/s, 768kbit/s or 1000kbit/s with unlimited surfing depending on the service package that these users will subscribe to.”

“…will connect BruNet users at higher speeds of 512kbit/s…” so this plan promised to its customer that they will have a FIXED connection of 512kbits/s (64kb/s of download rate)

ANOTHER EXAMPLE:

NETKAD or SIMPUR is connected via 56k modem.. in other words, its 56kbits/s which is at maximum of 7kbps of download rate.. lidut tuu nyintaa...

Ada seorang pemuda yang sangat pemarah. Dia tidak dapat mengawal kemarahannya walaupun ianya hanya satu masalah kecil sahaja.

Pada suatu hari, bapanya telah menghadiahkannya dengan seguni paku. "Untuk apakah paku-paku ini ayah?" tanya pemuda tersebut.

ini, bagi melepaskan kemarahan mu" jawab ayahnya.

Pada hari yang pertama sahaja, pemuda itu telah memaku sebanyak 37 batang paku pada tembok batu tersebut. Selepas beberapa minggu, setelah dia dapat mengurangkan kemarahannya, jumlah paku yang digunakan juga berkurangan.

Dia mendapati, adalah lebih mudah mengawal kemarahannya dari memukul paku
menembusi tembok batu tersebut. Akhirnya tibalah pada suatu hari, di mana pemuda tersebut tidak marah, walau sekali pun. Dia pun memberitahu ayahnya mengenai perkara tersebut dengan gembira. Bapanya mengucapkan tahniah dan menyuruh dia mencabut kembali paku itu satu persatu, pada setiap hari yang ia lalui tanpa kemarahan.

Hari berganti hari, dan akhirnya dia berjaya mencabut kesemua paku-paku tersebut. Pemuda tersebut lantas memberitahu perkara tersebut kepada bapanya dengan bangganya.

Bapanya lantas memimpin tangannya ke tembok tersebut dan berkata "Kau telah melakukannya dengan baik, anakku, tetapi lihatlah kesan lubang-lubang di tembok batu tersebut, tembok itu tidak akan kelihatan sama lagi seperti sebelumnya. Bila kau menyatakan sesuatu atau melakukan sesuatu ketika marah, ianya akan meninggalkan kesan parut dan luka, sama seperti ini. Kau boleh menikam seseorang dengan pisau dan membunuhnya. Tetapi ingatlah, tak kesah berapa kali kau memohon maaf dan menyesal atas perbuatam mu, namun lukanya masih tetap ada. Luka di hati adalah lebih pedih dari luka fizikal."
